When our friends Jen and Mike visited, Rey immediately noticed that they wore helmets to ride their motorcycle. His brain started making those grinding and squeeking noises and a little puff of smoke came out of his ears. Then, suddenly, a light bulb went on over his head.
He grabbed Mike's helmet and put it on his head, and purposefully strode to his tricycle. He mounted it quickly and raced away. The helmet did not fit perfectly, however, and soon obscured his vision.
Our relentless and intrepid biker was not to be deterred, and soon had the obedient helmet under his thumb. Soon he was off to the races again, with the necessary safety gear intact and working as advertised.
A great ride for a tough little biker while Mom looks on...
Our intrepid hero stands tall. He takes a moment to survey the situation. He takes stock of his surroundings. He knows he has nothing to fear! He is Buzz Lightyear, Space Ranger!
The phone rings. It is the King of the Land of the North, His Majesty Rick of Orono, leader of the Northlings and member of the Galactic Alliance. Buzz takes the phone. He speaks, his voice resounding proudly with the responsibility of command, "I am Buzz Lightyear - I come in peace!".
Though always on the lookout for any sign of trouble that might herald the presence of the Evil Emperor Zurg, sworn enemy of the Galactic Alliance, Buzz takes a moment to enjoy a bit of banter with his underlings, and a smile momentarily crosses his lips, before the press off duty moves him to bark yet another command.
"I want milk!" he growls. And the universe is safe for another day.
Mom, this is Rey. I know I kept you up all night the night before this picture was taken, but really, did I deserve the squishing. I mean, just look! Look at my head. I. Am. Squashed.
I know I was a pain, but hey, remember how Daddy left his so called safety razor in the side pocket of his suitcase? I thought it looked like a fun toy, but it turned out to be pretty sharp. Maybe that's why I was up all night, did you ever consider?
And I know you made pancakes, and I would have loved them if I was eating solid food allot yet, but I wasn't, you know? Milk, milk and more milk. You know, I still love milk. In fact I remember now that the milk kept coming even after I would bite the nice nipple. Pretty nice of you actually to let me keep nursing at all after that first bite. If I could just remember a little better...all the times you held me and sung to me softly before I went to sleep at night, and then did it again 20 minutes later after I woke up because Daddy couldn't keep his hands off the ice trays in the freezer. Amazing how loud those things can be. Or all the times you sung me to sleep with soft lullabies after Daddy bellowed them at me in my bedroom/office/dining room I used to live in. Daddy, lullabies are supposed to be sung softly, ok? All the times I woke in the night and you came to comfort me and nursed me back to sleep. Hmm, someday I will appreciate all that...probably as soon as I have a kid of my own, but hey, that's a long way off.
In the meantime, I guess it's ok if you want to squish me a little. I don't mind.

For the first two years of his life, I lamented that it seemed impossible to find a way to take Rey swimming. I knew he would love it, but our schedule working full time and busy with groceries etc on the weekends precluded visiting a public pool, and although we would occasionally visit a beach, the weather and water are usually a bit to cold for a dip in the bay or sea. Finally, when we visited Black Oak this last summer, Rey had his chance to try it out...
His first dip was a little bit of a big deal. The water was so enticing, but also, a little scary. Soon, he was standing knee deep, and looking at maybe tring a bit more.
Then it was right on in. And man, did he love it. He swam and swam and swam, and never wanted to get out. Look at the bliss!
What a happy fish!
It's no wonder he often says "I'm not Rey. My name is Nemo" He really and truly is a fish.
